India's Refining Capacity Fuels Growing Diesel Exports to Europe

India’s oil‑processing infrastructure, with an installed capacity of 258.1 million tonnes per year, is now a cornerstone of Europe’s diesel supply chain. The Vertexa analysis notes that about 60 percent of diesel cargoes that traversed the Bab al‑Mandeb strait in August came from Indian plants. The nation exported 6.15 crore tonnes of petroleum products in FY 2025‑26, joining the ranks of the world’s largest refined‑fuel exporters. European demand for Indian diesel is rising as the continent seeks to replace Russian volumes that have slumped to an average of 150,000 barrels per day, far below historical levels.
