International Spot Gold and Silver Slip as Dollar Index Hits Four‑Week High

On Monday, precious‑metal futures across major exchanges posted declines as the U.S. dollar index surged past the 100‑point threshold, its highest level in four weeks. COMEX spot gold slipped 0.75 percent to $4,391 per ounce, while silver dropped 0.76 percent to $66 per ounce.

In India, the impact was evident on the MCX. The October 5 2026 gold contract fell to ₹1,53,500 per 10 grams, a 0.54 percent dip from the previous close of ₹1,54,381. Silver’s December 4 2026 contract settled at ₹2,40,004 per kilogram, down 0.70 percent from ₹2,41,603.

Analysts argue that the strong dollar, buoyed by rate‑positive sentiment, is pressuring precious‑metal valuations, while a tentative easing of global tensions is providing additional downward pressure on demand.
