London Summit Positions Maharashtra as India’s Emerging Quantum and AI Hub
The Global India Business Corridor’s "City Quantum & AI Summit" in London provided Maharashtra a prominent platform to showcase its ambitions of becoming India’s premier quantum and artificial‑intelligence centre. The state’s delegation, comprising Principal Secretary P. Anbalagan and Chief Investment Adviser Kaustubh Dhavse, concluded the mission on October 8 after a series of strategic engagements.
Thirteen bilateral sessions with global CEOs, investors and senior officials from public research institutes allowed Maharashtra to present a roadmap for a dedicated quantum computing facility, AI research infrastructure, and advanced cyber‑security solutions for critical services. The plan also envisions quantum‑sensor deployment for underground transport safety and low‑energy data‑centre construction.
Further discussions highlighted AI‑based approval mechanisms to accelerate investment processes, an advanced manufacturing hub to attach MSMEs to worldwide supply chains, and specialized training and incubation schemes for tech startups. A notable outcome was the dialogue with the City of London Corporation on setting up an institutional finance channel to raise capital for large‑scale infrastructure projects in the state.
GIBC’s illustrative projections estimate that, should the proposals secure full financing, the initiative could generate approximately ₹20,000 crore in economic activity over a ten‑year horizon and create up to 8,000 direct and indirect jobs. While these figures remain provisional, officials emphasize that a successful corridor would expand global access for Maharashtra’s engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs, thereby enhancing the state’s technological prowess and governance capacity.
