Mid‑Cap and Small‑Cap Indices Record Gains in Early Trade

Mumbai, July 9 – Early Thursday trading saw robust participation across all market caps in India. At 9:20 a.m., the Sensex was up 336 points (0.42%) at 76,822 and the Nifty climbed 112 points (0.47%) to 23,994.35.

The breadth of the rally extended to the mid‑cap and small‑cap segments. The Nifty Mid‑Cap 100 surged 550 points, an increase of 0.90%, landing at 61,876. The Nifty Small‑Cap 100 added 181 points, or 0.96%, to close at 18,964.

Share leaders in the large‑cap space comprised Eternal, Sun Pharma, Titan, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Trent, L&T, HDFC Bank, Power Grid, BEL, M&M, Axis Bank, UltraTech Cement, Adani Ports, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI, ITC and HUL. Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finance and NTPC were the notable decliners.

Sectoral drivers were consumer durables and real‑estate, which topped the Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Real Estate indices. Additional sectoral gains were recorded in pharma, healthcare, media, infra, private banking and FMCG. Only the IT and metal indices posted losses.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their buying streak, injecting ₹1,963 crore into equities on Wednesday, the sixth straight day of net purchases. Domestic institutions added ₹790.16 crore during the same session.

Across Asia, Tokyo, Bangkok and Jakarta posted gains, while Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul were in the red. In the United States, the Dow fell 1.09% whereas the Nasdaq technology index rose 0.20%.

The convergence of domestic enthusiasm, especially in mid‑ and small‑cap stocks, with persistent foreign buying underpins a cautiously optimistic outlook for the Indian market.
