Milk Prices Up Rs 2/Litre: Mother Dairy After Amul Raise

In a swift response to escalating input costs, Mother Dairy has announced a uniform Rs 2 per litre price increase for its entire milk portfolio, set to kick in on May 14, 2026. This development closely trails Amul's similar adjustment, signalling tough times ahead for dairy consumers in the national capital. The decision stems from a persistent 6% rise in milk procurement expenses from farmers over the last 12 months. Mother Dairy emphasised that the hike is conservative, covering only a fraction of the actual cost escalation. By directing 75-80% of revenues back to farmers, the company sustains a vital ecosystem that benefits both producers and buyers with consistent quality. Detailed price changes include: Token milk at Rs 58 (up from Rs 56), full cream at Rs 72 (from Rs 70), toned at Rs 60 (from Rs 58), double toned Live Light at Rs 54 (from Rs 52), cow milk at Rs 62 (from Rs 60), and Pro Milk at Rs 72 (from Rs 70). These updates follow the previous revision in April 2025. Amul, meanwhile, has revised prices for key variants: 1L Amul Taaza now Rs 57 (was Rs 55), 500ml cow milk Rs 30 (Rs 29), 500ml Shakti Rs 32 (Rs 31), 1L Tea Special Rs 66 (Rs 63), 500ml Gold Rs 35 (Rs 34), and 500ml Buffalo Milk Rs 39 (Rs 37). With dairy forming a staple in Indian diets, these hikes could ripple through household budgets, prompting calls for government intervention to stabilise the market.
