Travelers Can Book Monthly Local Passes via Mobile App, Reducing Toll Booth Queues

Commuters on Indian highways now have the option to secure a Fastag Local Pass online, thanks to NHAI's latest digital initiative. The service, accessible through the Road Travel app, allows users to book a monthly pass for a specific toll plaza without stepping foot at the booth.

The first digital pass was introduced at the Mundka‑Bakkarwala plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road‑II in July 2026. The eligibility criterion is simple: the applicant’s domicile must fall within a 20‑km radius of the toll point. Once approved, the pass grants unlimited passage through that plaza for the month, removing the need for repeated toll payments.

Verification is handled automatically by linking the applicant’s address, vehicle registration and Fastag details with DigiLocker and other e‑government services. Geographic Information System (GIS) checks ensure the address truly lies within the defined zone. The Ministry anticipates that this technology‑driven approach will cut down queue times, improve revenue tracking and make highway travel smoother for everyday commuters.

The programme is slated for further expansion, with more toll plazas to join the digital pass network in the coming months.
