Mumbai Market Shows Cautious Moves in Gold, Silver Before US CPI
The Mumbai Multi‑Commodity Exchange recorded a subdued but mixed performance in gold and silver on Thursday as market participants braced for the US consumer‑price index slated for release on September 11. MCX’s October 5 2026 gold contract began the day at ₹1,53,581 per 10 g, a modest decline from the previous close of ₹1,53,763, then rose to ₹1,54,010, adding ₹247 (0.16%). The metal’s low and high for the session were ₹1,53,581 and ₹1,54,450 respectively. Silver’s December 4 2026 contract opened at ₹2,43,292 per kg versus a prior close of ₹2,44,213, slipping to ₹2,43,690, a fall of ₹523 (0.21%). Its intraday low and high stood at ₹2,42,726 and ₹2,44,300 per kg. On the COMEX, gold edged up 0.17 % to $4,467 per ounce while silver fell 0.60 % to $68.2 per ounce. Traders said the limited price swings reflect a wait‑and‑see attitude until the US inflation data, which could influence Fed rate‑hike expectations.
