New seed storage warehouses announced alongside GI push in Tamil Nadu

In addition to the GI applications, the agriculture minister disclosed plans for nine modern seed storage facilities. The warehouses will be situated in Kattuthottam and Pattukottai of Thanjavur, Nagamangalam in Mayiladuthurai, Vellalavidhuthy in Pudukkottai, Papparpatti in Dharmapuri, Danishpet in Salem, Madathukulam in Tirupur and both Kanchikudukadu and Keerandhi in Tiruvallur. These centres are expected to reduce sugar loss from cane residues and improve overall sugar recovery at mills, while also safeguarding farmer‑produced seeds.
