Nifty ends day up 0.10% at 23,898, metal and commodity stocks drive rally

India’s Nifty index closed at 23,897.70 on Friday, marking a 0.10% rise of 24.25 points after a four‑day losing streak. The uplift was anchored by strong performances in the metal and commodity segments, with Nifty Metal gaining 1.07% and Nifty Commodities up 0.55%.

Other sectors that contributed positively included Financial Services (0.49%), Defence (0.39%), Media (0.30%), Private Banks (0.28%), Oil & Gas (0.21%) and Power (0.04%).

Conversely, the Real Estate, Healthcare, Pharma, IT, Auto, PSU Banking, and Consumer Durables sectors slipped, pulling the market down on the downside.

Mid‑cap stocks posted a slight decline of 0.25% while small‑cap stocks rose 0.22%.

Analysts say the rally reflects reduced anxiety over further U.S. rate hikes, though profit‑booking and Middle‑East tensions keep the market’s upside modest. All eyes now turn to the forthcoming U.S. employment report and next week’s retail inflation data for clues on the trajectory of global interest rates.
