Nifty Loses Over Two Percent, Mid‑Cap and Small‑Cap Follow

The Nifty 50’s downward pressure spilled over to broader market segments. The Nifty Mid‑Cap Index dropped 1.7 per cent and the Nifty Small‑Cap Index fell 2.3 per cent. Sector‑wise, all major gauges closed in the red. PSU banking stocks led the decline with a 2.56 per cent fall, followed closely by private‑bank shares (‑2.42 per cent) and the broader banking index (‑2.40 per cent). FMCG, media and auto indices also registered losses above 2 per cent, while pharma and metal sectors were relatively resilient, slipping less than one per cent each.
