No‑vending zones reinforced after court finds vendors selling fake designer goods

The Delhi High Court has reinforced the importance of "no‑vending" and "no‑squatting" zones after discovering that several mobile vendors were operating from a single spot on Ajmal Khan Road, an area officially declared off‑limits for street vending.

Photographic evidence and a review of the State of the City (ST) report revealed that many of the 24 petitioners, despite holding provisional COVs, were stationary and selling counterfeit designer items. The bench emphasized that the lack of clear signage often leads vendors to unknowingly breach the restrictions.

The court ordered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to install proper signboards at all identified no‑vending zones and directed the Town Vending Committee‑II to oversee the placement of these boards. Until such signage is in place, the court warned that the zones would remain ineffective and could continue to cause inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters heading to Karol Bagh Metro station.
