Polachi Coconut Prices Fall as Export Volumes Recover
Polachi’s coconut market is witnessing a price correction driven by a rebound in export activity. After a three‑month hiatus, shipments to Gulf ports have resumed, prompted by renewed demand and a modest easing of shipping costs.
The renewed flow of goods has reduced the surplus that previously flooded local markets, pushing the average price down to approximately ₹40,000 per tonne, compared with ₹65,000 a year earlier.
However, growers caution that logistical challenges remain. Freight charges, though lower than their pandemic‑era peak, are still higher than the norm, and occasional delays have led to spoilage of certain shipments.
Looking ahead, farmers are optimistic that the next two months of the harvest will sustain current production levels, provided that weather conditions remain favorable.
