India's semiconductor ecosystem is firing on all cylinders, with Global Capability Centers (GCCs) posting a staggering 3,549 open roles in the January-March quarter. Released on Thursday, the CareerNet report paints a picture of accelerated growth, driven by nimble smaller GCCs that hold half the market share in center count. Bengaluru remains a powerhouse, but Hyderabad is fast catching up as an emerging epicenter for chip design talent. Semiconductor design GCCs represent roughly 5% of the nation's total, expanding at 7.2% annually over 20 years, fueled by insatiable needs for VLSI experts and software specialists. Month-on-month gains were impressive: January started at 2,426 openings, climbing to 3,077 in February before hitting 3,549 in March. This momentum indicates a strategic pivot where mid-sized centers are no longer passive observers but active builders of high-caliber teams. 'Big GCCs once ruled semiconductor recruitment here, but the landscape is changing,' observed Neelabh Shukla, CareerNet's Chief Business Officer. 'Smaller players are stepping up aggressively, creating teams ahead of peak demand.' He emphasized the decentralization of operations from the US to JAPAC, spotlighting India's execution prowess in cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Breakdown of demand reveals VLSI roles dominating at 37-45%, closely followed by software engineering at 39-46%. Operations and IT infra roles trailed at 10-18%. As global chip shortages ease and supply chains realign, India's GCC surge could cement its status as the next semiconductor superpower.
