Railway ministry greenlights expansion of maintenance infrastructure at SECR Raipur

A fresh allocation of ₹175 crore has been approved to bolster the maintenance base at the South East Central Railway’s Raipur hub. The funds will be directed towards building extra housing slots for a fleet of 250 three‑phase electric locomotives housed in the high‑horsepower (HHP) diesel shed.

The added housing will streamline routine overhauls, safety audits and corrective work, thereby enhancing locomotive availability and reliability. The project reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to expanding its electric locomotive fleet while strengthening the supporting infrastructure.

Alongside this, the Railway Minister noted that the high‑speed bullet‑train corridor is progressing on schedule. The first operational segment, Surat to Bilimora, is expected next year, with subsequent phases linking Vapi, Ahmedabad, Thane and Mumbai targeted for completion by 2029.
