Study Finds No Engine Modifications Needed for BS‑III Cars Using 20% Ethanol Blend

The inter‑ministerial committee set up by the NITI Aayog in December 2020 examined vehicle compatibility, mileage impact and fuel efficiency of ethanol‑blended petrol. Its findings, supported by Indian Oil, ARAI and SIAM, confirmed that the BS‑III fleet does not require any engine calibration, fuel‑system tweaks or component upgrades for E20 operation. Parameters such as drive‑ability, cold‑start performance and durability of both metallic and polymer parts stayed within acceptable limits.
