Trade Agreements Expand Indian Market Access to $75 Trillion by 2026
Speaking on 22 September from New Delhi, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the impact of India’s expanding network of trade agreements on its developmental trajectory toward 2047. He highlighted that strategic FTAs have already unlocked access to economies representing a combined US$60 trillion in GDP.
Goyal stated that in the previous four years, nine new free‑trade deals have opened doors to 38 countries, strengthening Indian exporters’ reach and enhancing domestic industry competitiveness. He added that the government is actively negotiating eight more bilateral agreements, potentially adding another US$15 trillion of market opportunity.
“These accords are not just paperwork; they translate into real‑world advantages for Indian manufacturers, farmers, and service providers,” Goyal said. He linked the thriving trade environment to the broader goal of achieving comprehensive economic stability.
The minister also reiterated the importance of infrastructure spending—12 lakh crore rupees annually with private sector participation—to ensure that Indian goods can move efficiently across ports, expressways, waterways, and rail corridors, further leveraging the benefits of international partnerships.
