
Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has paid homage to the social reformer, thinker, writer and philosopher Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his death anniversary on November 28, on the occasion of Samta Diwas. Mr. Baghel has said that Mahatma Phule wanted to free the society from superstitions and malpractices. He was a strong opponent of the prevailing caste system in Indian society and the discrimination based on it. He did many works for the upliftment of women and Dalits. Mahatma Phule founded the Satyashodhak Samaj to end discrimination against Dalits and give them a place in the society. Shri Baghel said that Mahatma Phule emphasized on the education of all sections to free the society from the evils. He also promoted women’s education and educated his wife, Mrs. Savitribai Phule, who became India’s first teacher. The Chief Minister said that the spirit of service and thoughts of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule will always inspire us to serve the poor and downtrodden and establish equality in the society.
