Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ambitious film, ‘The Goat Life’, has finally graced screens after an astonishing 16-year journey from its initial signing. Directed by Blessy, this desert survival drama, released in 2024, garnered significant anticipation. However, despite the extensive development period and high expectations, the movie unfortunately did not achieve box office success, leading to its classification as a flop.
Prithviraj Sukumaran himself revealed in a conversation that he committed to the project around 2008-2009, marking a 16-year span before its eventual release. He described the film’s presence as a constant throughout his evolving career. ‘The Goat Life’ is now available for audiences to stream on Netflix, where it is finding a new audience and gaining attention online.
The film, which boasts an IMDb rating of 7.1, tells a compelling story of survival. While critical reception and audience scores on platforms like IMDb indicate quality, this did not translate into box office earnings. Industry trackers reported a worldwide gross collection of approximately Rs 157.35 crore, with the net collection in India reaching around Rs 85.01 crore and an overseas collection of Rs 59.5 crore.
Prithviraj Sukumaran, a versatile actor and director, was recently seen in the action drama ‘Sarzameen’ and is slated to appear in ‘Salaar 2’. He previously made his directorial debut with the successful film ‘Lucifer’.
