52‑Year Wedding Milestone: Amitabh admits he never prepared a cup for Jaya

The celebrated Bollywood duo Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan marked 52 years of marriage on September 1, but a light‑hearted confession stole the headlines. In a special segment of "Kaun Banega Crorepati 18", the host asked Amitabh if he had ever made a cup of tea for Jaya. The actor laughed and said, "I have never prepared tea for my wife. I don’t drink tea and I don’t know how to make it."

He added that Jaya’s tea consumption is minimal, and even when she does drink it, he prefers not to be the one serving. Amitabh remarked that modern tea bags come with a pull‑string that simplifies the process, yet he has never used one. He is currently learning the basics so that, should Jaya ever request a cup, he can fulfill it.

Their romance began when Jaya was an established actress and Amitabh was still seeking his breakthrough. The friendship deepened into love, leading to a wedding on June 3, 1973. Their collaborative filmography features "Guddi", "Ek Nazar", "Zanjeer", "Abhimaan", "Chupke Chupke" and the timeless classic "Sholay".

After the success of "Zanjeer", they planned an overseas trip with friends, during which family members encouraged them to marry. The couple has kept their personal life largely out of the media spotlight. They are parents to Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan. While Amitabh rose to become a Bollywood legend, Jaya carved a political identity in addition to her acting career.
