From Advertising Copy to National Awards: Ghosh’s Unfinished Vision

Ghosh’s debut as a director came with the children’s film “Heerer Angti,” but it was the 1994 masterpiece “Unishe April” that earned him a National Film Award for Best Feature Film and cemented his status in Bengali cinema. Over the next two decades he delivered titles such as “Dahan,” “Baribari,” “Utsav,” and “Chokher Bali,” each exploring love, loneliness, and societal pressure. While his filmography includes collaborations with Aishwarya Rai, Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, and others, the director’s personal agenda remained unfulfilled: a serious, character‑driven project starring Madhuri Dixit that never moved beyond the planning stage.
