The esteemed artist, who graced the silver screen for decades, passed away at the age of 98. Bachchan expressed his deep sorrow on his blog, reflecting on Kaushal’s immense contribution to Indian cinema and her warm presence. He described her as a ‘dear family friend’ with roots extending back to a time before India’s partition, highlighting a long-standing connection with her family and his own mother’s circle. Bachchan recalled the deep friendships between their families in pre-partition Punjab, noting that Kaushal’s elder sister was a close friend and classmate of his mother, forming a ‘joyous bunch of like-minded friends.’ The superstar extended his sincere condolences to Kaushal’s grieving family, lamenting the departure of a ‘most pleasant, warm, affectionate, and talented artist.’ He noted that an ‘era of great remembrance’ has concluded, not just for the film industry but for the broader community of friends. Kaushal, a leading actress of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, starred alongside numerous legendary actors throughout her career. Her debut film, ‘Neecha Nagar,’ achieved international acclaim, winning the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film at the first Cannes Film Festival, a significant milestone for Indian cinema. With a career spanning over seven decades, Kaushal appeared in more than 70 films, leaving an indelible mark with her performances. Her most recent appearance was in the 2022 film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha.’
