Assam’s Cultural Department Leads Three‑Day Memorial for Late Singer Jubin Garg

The cultural department of Assam organized a three‑day memorial in Sonapur on September 19 to honor singer Jubin Garg, one year after his death. The temporary structure erected at the site of his funeral became the focal point for fans who sang his hit tracks, creating a moving chorus of remembrance.

Day one commenced with a short prayer, followed by a “Naam‑Prasang” ceremony that highlighted the artist’s career milestones. The second day will present a blend of musical and dance performances representing the state’s diverse traditions. The final day is reserved for a Bhagwat Path recitation and the staging of the traditional Vaishnava drama Bhaoona, intended to showcase Assam’s spiritual and cultural depth.

State officials have arranged additional facilities, including water stations and medical aid, to cope with the large gathering and to maintain order. Organisers have appealed for calm behaviour and respect for the solemn atmosphere.

Friend and fellow musician Shaan paid tribute by releasing a new duet with Mahalakshmi, dedicated to Garg. Shaan also uploaded a video featuring Garg’s past performances, captioned, “Jubin remains forever with us, an eternal presence.”

Garg’s recent itinerary included a trip to Singapore for the North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20. He drowned while swimming near Lasers Island, a tragedy that occurred just a day before his planned appearance.
