BJP and SP Representatives Demand Legal Clampdown on Hate Speech

The Samajwadi Party’s executive president, Yusuf Abraham, demanded immediate enforcement of existing statutes that penalise hateful or derogatory remarks against any community. Abraham highlighted that the law already provides recourse against speech that incites hatred, and urged police to act promptly.

He warned that unchecked mockery of Kashmiri Pandits or Bihari migrants fuels division and can lead to violent confrontations. “We must protect the dignity of every citizen, especially those who have endured displacement and marginalisation,” he said.

Both party leaders called for a broader public dialogue on the limits of comedy, seeking to balance creative freedom with respect for historically vulnerable groups.
