In the current South Indian cinema landscape, three films are dominating the box office. One of them is Teja Sajja’s recent release, ‘Miray,’ which is gaining popularity worldwide and achieving impressive figures. Even before its release, two films were already making waves with their earnings. Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah’ is performing exceptionally well, while ‘Dil Madrasi’ is managing a decent collection. Let’s delve into the specifics to determine which film is thriving and which is facing challenges.
‘Lokah,’ specifically ‘Lokah Chapter 1,’ has accumulated ₹126.95 crore in India within 21 days. The gross collection for the film reached ₹148.55 crore. The movie showcased even more remarkable performance overseas, emerging as one of the year’s biggest hits. Reports indicate that it earned ₹111.45 crore in foreign markets, resulting in a worldwide collection of ₹260 crore. On its 22nd day of release, the film collected ₹1.85 crore.
This represents the lowest single-day collection for the film so far. Consequently, the film has amassed a total of ₹261.85 crore in 22 days as of the time of this report. With a reported budget of ₹30 crore, the film has already recovered approximately nine times its budget. It remains to be seen how much further its earnings will improve in the coming period.
Conversely, ‘Dil Madrasi’ is reported to have a high-budget production. According to reports, this movie was made with a budget of ₹180-200 crore. However, the film is not meeting expectations. Its performance in India has not been exceptional, and it has also received limited support in overseas markets. Reports suggest that the film has collected ₹60.20 crore in India so far. Sivakarthikeyan’s film took two full weeks to reach this figure. Overseas, the film managed to collect ₹24.80 crore in two weeks. Its worldwide collection has reached ₹95 crore. However, when considering the total earnings, the film has only managed to recover about half of its budget. This is a significant cause for concern.
Based on the figures, it is clear that ‘Lokah’ is flourishing, while Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Dil Madrasi’ is struggling. For ‘Dil Madrasi,’ even considering profits would be premature. The film is not even recovering its substantial budget. Moreover, the release of new films in cinemas may further impact the collections of both movies.
