Superstar Rajinikanth is collaborating with director Lokesh Kanagaraj for ‘Coolie,’ a highly anticipated 2025 release. The film is poised to compete with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2,’ which is also aiming for a wide release across India. Advance booking for ‘Coolie’ is scheduled to begin on August 8, with early morning showtimes planned.
Due to Rajinikanth’s massive fanbase, numerous theaters have arranged early morning screenings for ‘Coolie.’ In Kerala and Karnataka, shows are set to commence at 6 AM, while in Tamil Nadu, screenings will start at 9 AM. Early shows will not be available in Tamil Nadu due to a government decision to cancel First Day First-Show (FDFS) screenings in 2023, following the death of a fan.
‘Coolie’ features a star-studded cast, including Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan will also make a cameo appearance. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures.
The movie has also garnered attention for receiving an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This certification was granted due to the film’s violent content, which came as a surprise, considering Lokesh’s previous films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ received ‘U/A’ certificates.
The plot revolves around Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie. He endeavors to reclaim his former glory by reviving his old gang, utilizing stolen technology hidden within vintage golden watches, which leads to unexpected consequences.
In related news, Rajinikanth’s most recent appearance was in ‘Vettaiyan,’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak.
