Rajinikanth’s latest cinematic venture, ‘Coolie,’ has made a significant impact, achieving success in theaters despite mixed reviews. The film’s performance at the box office has fueled speculation regarding its digital release. Current reports suggest that ‘Coolie’ will become available on Prime Video following its theatrical run. While an official release date remains unconfirmed, industry estimates point towards an OTT debut in October or November of 2025, aligning with the typical 45 to 60-day window for such releases.
‘Coolie’ features a star-studded cast including Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat, with a cameo appearance by Aamir Khan. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The narrative centers on Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie, who attempts to reclaim his former glory by resurrecting his old gang using stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, leading to unforeseen consequences.
‘Coolie’ also drew attention for its ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a departure from the ‘U/A’ certificates received by Lokesh’s earlier films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram.’
Further developments suggest that Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj may collaborate again on a project with Kamal Haasan, potentially a gangster drama produced by Kamal Haasan’s production house, focusing on aging gangsters whose pasts intersect.
