The Indian government has announced the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2025: South Indian superstar Mohanlal. This is a landmark moment for the actor, as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor in Indian cinema. Mohanlal has not only made a name for himself in South Indian cinema but has also worked in Hindi films, garnering a significant fan following. He debuted in films at the age of 18, though his role in the 1978 film ‘Thiranottam’ was small. Due to issues with the censor board, the film’s release was delayed. His breakthrough came in 1980 with ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal,’ which brought him recognition and became a blockbuster. He went on to star in many remarkable films after that.
Mohanlal’s most significant year was 1986 when he acted in 34 films. At 26, he achieved this incredible feat, earning him immense recognition. Notably, 25 of those 34 films were box-office blockbusters. In that year, a film of his was released every 15 days. Mohanlal has also made a name for himself as a filmmaker. He is a prominent figure in the Malayalam industry. Regarding his personal life, Mohanlal was born to Viswanathan Nair and Santha Kumari in Elathur, Pathanamthitta district. His father was a government lawyer. Mohanlal developed an interest in drama during his school years. When he was in sixth grade, he received the Best Actor award. He had portrayed a 90-year-old man at a young age. After completing his graduation, he entered the world of acting and achieved success. Mohanlal has also made a name for himself not only as an actor but also as a producer, playback singer, distributor, director, and businessman. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and five National Awards. He has acted in over 400 films. In 1988, he married Suchitra, and they have two children. He owns a film company named Pranavam Arts and has several other businesses.
