Dev Sharma’s Journey from Rejecting to Embracing Lord Rama in New Film

Mumbai – Actor Dev Sharma will soon don the sacred mantle of Lord Rama in the upcoming production "Shri Ramayan Katha". The path to this casting was marked by hesitation and a heartfelt paternal reminder.

Sharma disclosed that he first received the offer on a Sunday afternoon while sipping tea and eating aloo parathas. Director Abhishek Singh announced an ambitious project based on the Ramayana. "My first reaction was to turn it down," Sharma said. "I figured they were looking for a supporting deity like Lakshmana or even the villain Ravana."

Having built his career on contemporary, high‑octane characters, Sharma felt a divine role might clash with his acting sensibilities. He also questioned the necessity of another Ramayana when the industry was already investing heavily—over ₹1,200 crore—in a big‑budget version with leading stars.

During this period of self‑doubt, Sharma’s mind drifted to a simple piece of advice his late father had given him: "Instead of asking many questions, just go and meet them once." On that same Sunday, he decided to honor his father's memory by following the advice. He met the director and producers, learned about the film’s artistic goals, and eventually agreed to portray Rama.

According to Sharma, "Shri Ramayan Katha" will keep the core ethos of the epic intact while employing modern cinematic techniques to appeal to younger audiences. The storyline will mirror the classic tale but will be enriched with fresh visual storytelling.

The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on 25 September.
