Actor Diljit Dosanjh’s latest film, tentatively titled ‘Punjab 95’, depicting the excesses of the 1990s Punjab militancy, is facing significant challenges with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, based on the life of Sikh activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has reportedly been blocked from release multiple times, with the CBFC demanding a considerable number of cuts and a title change. The director, Honey Trehan, along with Dosanjh, is resisting these cuts, emphasizing the importance of the film’s message regarding human rights violations. Dosanjh has previously stated his commitment to using his platform to address critical issues, even if it means foregoing commercial success. The film has already been announced for an international release, with that decision being reversed for unknown reasons. The team believes that ‘Punjab 95’ is crucial for audiences to understand the past and avoid repeating past mistakes.
