Family Celebrates Yogush Deshpande’s Best Adapted Screenplay Honour

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Pune concluded with screenwriter Yogesh Deshpande being crowned the Best Adapted Screenplay winner for the Marathi movie “Swaragandharva Sudhir Phadke”. The victory ignited a festive atmosphere at his home.

His wife, Trpti Deshpande, broke down in tears while speaking with IANS. She described the award as the result of Yogesh’s years‑long perseverance, sacrifice and creative discipline.

"When the announcement was made, we were together in the living room. The moment his name was spoken, the entire family flooded with joy," Trpti said, her voice trembling with pride.

She also reflected on the hardships the couple endured, noting that she managed household chores and cared for their infant while Yogesh was often away writing or filming.

"Those past years were challenging. Our child would often cry for his father, and I had to balance work and parenting," she recounted. "Nonetheless, we believed in his talent and gave him our full support."

Yogesh accepted the accolade, calling it a monumental honour for any writer. He promised to continue exploring stories that capture the essence of Indian heritage, societal dynamics and the emotional world of ordinary people.

The Deshpande family said they now look forward to more creative projects, buoyed by this national recognition.
