Father’s Legacy Lives On: Raza Murad Honors Murad’s Contributions to Indian Cinema

Celebrating the 115th birth anniversary of his father, veteran actor Raza Murad took to social media on September 24 to recount the sacrifices and achievements of Murad, a towering figure of classic Indian cinema. The post showcased a nostalgic family portrait that captured a young Raza nestled in his father’s arms while Murad, clad in a formal suit, beamed at the camera.

Raza’s accompanying note emphasized that the person he is today is a direct result of his father’s dedication and blessings. He recounted how Murad bore the sole financial responsibility for the family, working relentlessly to ensure a stable upbringing for his children. Though the senior Murad’s career spanned the 1940s to the 1980s, his influence persists across generations of fans.

Born Hamid Ali Murad, the elder Murad earned fame under the moniker “Murad” and appeared in more than two hundred films. His repertoire covered a wide array of supporting characters—fathers, judges, police officers, landlords, and even royalty. Signature performances include roles in "Anmol Ghadi" (1946), "Do Bigha Zamin" (1953), "Devdas" (1955), "Mughal‑e‑Azam" (1960), "Taj Mahal" (1963), and "Ganga Ki Saugaat" (1978). He also ventured abroad, portraying a Maharaja in the 1962 Hollywood adventure "Tarzan Goes to India."
