Reports at the time indicated that the makers were considering actress Rani Mukerji before Alia Bhatt for the film. Aditya Narayan, who was previously an assistant director to Bhansali, has confirmed this, clarifying that Rani Mukerji was indeed the first choice for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi.’ He revealed this during a TV event.
