Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s romantic drama, ‘Gustaakh Ishq,’ made its theatrical debut on November 28th, offering audiences a journey back to the 1990s with its blend of poetry, nostalgia, and classic romance. Directed by Vibhu Puri, the film’s opening day performance appears to have been impacted by a significant box-office clash with Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s ‘Tere Ishk Mein.’
Early box office figures suggest a modest start for ‘Gustaakh Ishq.’ Reports indicate an opening day collection of approximately Rs 50 lakh. The film’s overall Hindi occupancy rate hovered around 8.61% throughout the day. While morning and afternoon shows saw steady attendance, evening and particularly night shows experienced a slight uptick, reaching an occupancy of 20.96% in the later hours.
Geographically, certain cities showed stronger engagement. Surat recorded the highest occupancy at 23.50%, followed closely by Chennai at 21%. Major metropolitan areas like Mumbai registered 10.75% occupancy, while Delhi-NCR saw 8%. Globally, the film’s first-day earnings are estimated to be around Rs 60 lakh.
The film boasts a rich creative team, including music by Vishal Bhardwaj, lyrics by the legendary Gulzar, sound design by Resul Pookutty, and cinematography by Manush Nandan. Beyond the lead pair, Naseeruddin Shah and Sharib Hashmi also feature in key roles. This release also signifies a new venture for Manish Malhotra, who makes his debut as a film producer, aiming to merge traditional storytelling with modern filmmaking techniques.
