Following the success of ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ Imtiaz Ali is set to reunite with Diljit Dosanjh for a new cinematic project. The director aims to bring a captivating tale of love and yearning to the big screen. The yet-untitled film is scheduled to commence filming in August 2025 and will be released in theaters on Baisakhi 2026.
In addition to Diljit Dosanjh, the film will also feature Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. This project also marks a reunion for the iconic trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Imtiaz Ali.
Announcing the film, Imtiaz Ali shared a verse by Momin: “’Tum mere paas hote ho goya, Jab koi doosra nahin hota’ (‘You are with me, however, When there is no one else’).”
The movie is described as a story of both a boy and a girl, but also a nation. The director stated, “Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart? This film has a big heart. It has a large canvas, yet is very personal. It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country. We hope to emerge next year with a touching cinematic experience in a theatre near you.”
In other news, Imtiaz Ali will also be working with Netflix on another project, ‘O Saathi Re,’ starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Avinash Tiwary, and Arjun Rampal. The makers described the project as “an ode to the vintage feeling of love in contemporary times.”
