Indian Film Comedian Mushtaq Khan Succumbs to Cancer at Age 56

Mumbai – Indian cinema’s veteran comedian Mushtaq Khan died on Thursday at the age of 56 after a prolonged battle with cancer. The actor’s demise was confirmed by fellow comic Sunil Pal and BN Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees.

Khan’s health had been deteriorating for months as the disease progressed to its terminal stage. He passed away around 7 p.m., leaving a void in the world of Bollywood comedy.

Over a career that began with the 1980 film "Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai," Mushtaq Khan became a staple of supporting roles, known for his precise comic timing. His notable works include "Aashiqui," "Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke," "Hera Pheri," "Jodi No. 1," "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi," "Welcome," and "Raudi Rathore." In recent years, he appeared in "Gadar 2," "Badhai Ho," and "Stree 2."

The actor’s most celebrated role was Ballu in the 2007 blockbuster "Welcome," where his line, “Meri ek taang nakli hai…,” turned into a lasting meme across social platforms.

Beyond films, Mushtaq Khan also made his mark on television, notably in the series "Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi." Born on December 31, 1969, in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district, he is survived by his wife Salma Khan and two sons.
