Tragedy struck Nagpur as Priyanshu Chhetri, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, an actor recognized for his role in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Jhund’, was allegedly murdered by a friend. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning following a drunken altercation.
Authorities have identified and arrested Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu as the prime suspect in the case. Reports suggest that Chhetri and Sahu were long-time acquaintances who frequently consumed alcohol together. The fatal encounter took place in an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area after a heated argument ensued during a drinking session on Tuesday night.
According to police reports, Chhetri allegedly threatened Sahu during the argument. Following this, Sahu is accused of incapacitating Chhetri by tying him with wires before attacking him with a sharp weapon. The Jaripatka police station swiftly responded to the crime scene. Within six hours, the Crime Detection Branch successfully apprehended Sahu, who reportedly has a history of criminal offenses.
Further investigations revealed that Chhetri himself had a past involving minor offenses, including an arrest in 2022 for theft of jewelry and cash totaling ₹5 lakh. Recently, Chhetri and Sahu were reportedly involved in a financial dispute, and while they had clashed previously, friends had intervened to resolve those altercations.
‘Jhund’, directed by Nagraj Manjule, chronicles the inspiring journey of Vijay Barse and his initiative to form a football team with slum children in Nagpur. The film provided a platform for several local talents, including Chhetri, who portrayed a footballer named Babu Chhetri. Chhetri hailed from a modest background in Nagpur, and his acting journey was intertwined with struggles, including alleged drug addiction and petty crimes.
