Tragedy has struck Nagpur with the alleged murder of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, widely recognized for his role as Babu Chhetri in the critically acclaimed film ‘Jhund’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan. The 2022 film highlighted the inspiring story of a football team formed from slum children. Chhetri, a local talent discovered for the film, was reportedly killed on Wednesday following a heated argument.
The accused, identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, has been arrested by the Jaripatka police. Investigations suggest the incident occurred after a night of heavy drinking between the two friends. Reports indicate that an altercation escalated in an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area, where Chhetri allegedly threatened Sahu. Following the confrontation, Sahu is accused of tying Chhetri with wires and inflicting fatal injuries with a sharp weapon.
Authorities were alerted and a swift response from the Crime Detection Branch led to Sahu’s apprehension within six hours. Sahu, who reportedly has a criminal record, was arrested in connection with the murder. Preliminary findings suggest a recent monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu may have been a contributing factor to the fatal clash. Both individuals reportedly had a history of minor offenses, with Chhetri previously arrested for theft.
‘Jhund’, directed by Nagraj Manjule, was lauded for its realistic portrayal of underprivileged youth finding a new path through football. Priyanshu Chhetri, who came from a modest background, was one of the many local youngsters who found a platform through the film. His journey, from a challenging upbringing to acting alongside a Bollywood icon, underscores the potential lost in this unfortunate incident.
