Tragedy struck Nagpur on Wednesday with the alleged murder of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri. Chhetri gained recognition for his role as Babu Chhetri in the critically acclaimed 2022 film ‘Jhund,’ which featured megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The accused, identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, has been arrested following the incident. Reports indicate that the fatal altercation occurred early Wednesday morning after a drinking session between Chhetri and Sahu escalated into violence. The two were known to consume alcohol together. On Tuesday night, they reportedly met at an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area. During their gathering, an argument ensued, and Chhetri allegedly made threats towards Sahu before falling asleep. Subsequently, Sahu is accused of tying Chhetri with wires and attacking him with a sharp weapon. Law enforcement responded swiftly, with the Jaripatka police station team arriving at the scene shortly after. The Crime Detection Branch successfully apprehended Sahu within six hours. It has been reported that Sahu has a criminal record with several cases registered against him. The police also revealed that Chhetri himself had a history of minor offenses, including an arrest in 2022 for the theft of jewelry and cash valued at approximately ₹5 lakh. A recent monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu had also surfaced, though friends had previously intervened to resolve earlier clashes between them. ‘Jhund,’ directed by Nagraj Manjule, is inspired by the true story of Vijay Barse and his initiative to form a football team with underprivileged children in Nagpur, offering them a path to purpose and identity. Chhetri, a local Nagpur youth from a modest background, was cast as a footballer named Babu Chhetri in the film. He grew up near the railway tracks, with his father working as a daily wage laborer. He was the youngest of four children and reportedly struggled with drug addiction, which led him to petty crimes.
