Tragedy struck Nagpur as Priyanshu Chhetri, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, a budding actor recognized for his role in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Jhund’, was allegedly murdered by a friend. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 8, following a heated argument that escalated during a late-night drinking session. The accused, identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, has been arrested by the Jaripatka police.
Reports indicate that Chhetri and Sahu were frequent drinking companions. On Tuesday night, they reportedly gathered at an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area for a session. During their conversation, an argument erupted, during which Chhetri allegedly issued threats to Sahu. Chhetri eventually fell asleep, and it was at this point that Sahu is accused of tying him up with wires and attacking him with a sharp weapon, leading to his untimely demise.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene. The Crime Detection Branch successfully apprehended Sahu within six hours of the incident. Authorities noted that Sahu has a prior criminal record. Interestingly, Chhetri also had a history of minor offenses, including an arrest in 2022 for theft. Recent monetary disputes between Chhetri and Sahu had reportedly caused friction, though friends had intervened previously to resolve their conflicts.
‘Jhund’, directed by Nagraj Manjule, is a biographical sports drama inspired by the life of Vijay Barse, who coached underprivileged children through football. Chhetri, who hailed from a modest background in Nagpur and played a footballer named Babu Chhetri in the film, was among the local talents featured. His journey, from growing up near railway tracks to overcoming addiction and petty crime, was marked by his involvement in the film.
