The Kajol-starring film ‘Maa’ is slated for release on Netflix following its theatrical run. The movie garnered positive audience reception for its unique approach to the supernatural horror genre, with Kajol’s intense performance being particularly lauded.
‘Maa’ will be available on Netflix starting August 22, 2025.
Netflix announced the film’s OTT release with the message: “When the protector is a mother, every predator will fall. Watch Maa, out 22 August, on Netflix.”
In an interview, Kajol discussed ‘Maa’ and the potential for a franchise. She stated, “Maa is the kind of film that will compel you to sit at the edge of your seat because it will make you feel, and make you stand up with her (the lead protagonist) to win her fight; that’s one element we have truly achieved.”
During a conversation, she described her experience of working with VFX, noting, “The green screen doesn’t give you the space to improvise anything. You really have no choice in the matter. You have to look in a particular way, raise your hand in a particular way, your body language has to be a certain way. If you get a little leeway, you can improvise to a certain extent, but not much. It’s a very different way of working and performing altogether. It took a little while getting used to. Wrapping your head around it takes one or two days. And you need to have complete faith in your director. He needs to know what you’re doing because you definitely don’t.”
The film also features Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma in significant roles.
