Filmmaker Karan Johar has publicly called for greater sensitivity from paparazzi following veteran actor Dharmendra’s recent hospital discharge. Johar took to social media to express his strong disapproval of the media’s intrusive coverage, emphasizing the need to allow the legendary actor and his family space during this challenging period.
Veteran actor Dharmendra was released from the hospital and returned home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The situation escalated when Karan Johar shared a heartfelt plea on his Instagram story, highlighting the emotional toll such intense media attention can have on a family. He wrote, “PLEASE leave a family alone!!!! They are already emotionally combatting so much… Its heartbreaking to see a paparazzi and media circus for a living legend who has contributed so massively to our cinema… this is not coverage, it’s DISRESPECT!”
Johar’s appeal comes shortly after Dharmendra’s son, Sunny Deol, was seen confronting paparazzi outside their residence. In a viral video, Deol pleaded with the media, questioning their lack of empathy and asking, “Don’t you have parents at home? Don’t you have any shame?”
Dharmendra, 89, had been under medical supervision at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital and was admitted to the ICU on November 10, 2025. After spending over ten days in the hospital, he was discharged. The Deol family’s official statement requested continued respect for their privacy, stating, “Mr Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time.”
