Kunika Sadanand on Diljit's Delhi Show Cancellation and Safety
Actress Kunika Sadanand has weighed in on the cancellation of Diljit Dosanjh's Delhi concert, pointing to the importance of security for artists and suggesting that the government may have had reliable information behind the decision.
Reflecting on recent events, Sadanand said that the safety of celebrities has become an urgent concern. She remarked that personalities across the country are increasingly facing incidents that raise questions about their protection.
She said that if the concert was called off because of security considerations, the administration would certainly have received some input that justified the move.
Sadanand admitted that she does not know who made the final call. In her view, either the government or Diljit Dosanjh could have cancelled the show. If it was the government, she believes, it must have acted on specific information related to safety.
The event, titled the 'Aura India Tour', was set for October 30, 2026, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. However, Delhi Police has cancelled the concert because of security reasons and because permission was not granted.
The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, informed the ticketing platform Book My Show through a letter that the programme would not be approved.
According to the police, the decision was based on security threat inputs, the arrangements needed during the festive season, and their responsibilities for maintaining law and order.
The concert had first been planned for November 1. It was later moved to October 30 after MP Vikramjit Sahney appealed, citing the sentiments of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Since the police did not grant permission, the show has now been cancelled.
