Late Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s Legacy Honored by Peers

Cineaste Sanjay Gupta was laid to rest in spirit during an emotional memorial service, where filmmaker Milap Zaveri broke down while recalling the director’s fatherly guidance and early career support. Zaveri’s heartfelt tribute highlighted how Gupta handed him a monumental writing gig for the film Kaante at the tender age of twenty-one.

The prayer meeting, which featured actor Rohit Roy as the host, drew a crowd of industry figures eager to honor Gupta’s memory. Shared clips from the event showed Zaveri visibly weeping as he remembered the mentor who believed in his talent from the very beginning.

Industry peers took the floor to discuss the director’s charitable nature, his artistic footprint, and the immense respect he commanded across generations. Gupta’s wife and children were present, sitting in the front row while softly fighting back tears.

In a recent social media update, Zaveri shared footage from the gathering along with a deeply personal message. He characterized Gupta as a proud individual who never compromised his principles and who gave love endlessly.

Zaveri also directed a message of appreciation to Gupta’s spouse, Anuradha Leke Gupta. He mentioned her two-and-a-half decades of honest feedback regarding his screenwriting, calling his words inadequate for a man he called a Badshah. He will remain alive in our hearts, he affirmed.

The director’s life ended tragically on October 30, 2026, at the age of fifty-nine. Authorities reported that he lost his balance in his house’s kitchen, leading to a severe blow to his head. Because his relatives were asleep, the emergency went unnoticed until the next morning. Swift medical attention was sought at Cooper Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.
