Singer Lucky Ali has publicly criticized veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, calling him ‘ugly as f**k’ after an old video of Akhtar making controversial remarks about Hindus resurfaced. The singer later issued a peculiar apology, stating that ‘monsters may have feelings too’ and apologizing for potentially hurting anyone’s ‘monstrosity’.
Ali’s initial outburst was a direct response to a clip where Akhtar, discussing freedom of speech and democracy in India, urged Hindus ‘not to become like Muslims’ and instead to ‘make them like you’. This statement, made during a past event, went viral on social media platforms, sparking debate.
In his apology, posted on X, Ali elaborated on his criticism. He explained that his comment was aimed at ‘arrogance’, which he deemed ‘ugly’. He acknowledged his communication was a ‘mistaken communique’ and offered an apology for causing offense, adding the provocative line about monsters having feelings.
The viral video features Akhtar referencing a scene from the iconic film ‘Sholay,’ co-written by him. He questioned whether such a scene, where a character believes a deity is speaking to them, could be made today, implying a shift in societal or religious sensitivities. He then reiterated his earlier controversial statement about Hindus and Muslims.
