A Mumbai magistrate court has issued a notice to actress Rhea Chakraborty in the wake of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filing a closure report regarding the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The CBI’s report, submitted in March 2025, stated that no criminal evidence was found against the previously accused individuals. This notice is a standard procedural step, granting the complainant an opportunity to contest the investigative agency’s decision to close the case.
During the hearing, Magistrate R. D. Chavan instructed, “Issue notice to the original informant / victim / aggrieved person,” and adjourned the hearing until Rhea has officially received the notice. She is required to respond by August 12. The court’s action is part of the legal process, allowing the complainant to formally object to the closure of the investigation.
Rhea Chakraborty had previously filed a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, as well as Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram, alleging they facilitated the procurement of prescription medication for Sushant without proper medical consultation.
Rhea claimed that Sushant suffered from bipolar disorder and would occasionally stop taking his medication. She also alleged that Sushant’s sister ordered medicines via text messages using fake prescriptions. Her FIR invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020. His death garnered extensive media attention and several parallel investigations. Sushant’s father filed a separate FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of abetment to suicide and financial exploitation, claims Rhea has consistently denied.
The CBI took over the investigation from both the Mumbai and Bihar police and has now concluded that there is no evidence of wrongdoing. The court will proceed with the matter after Chakraborty submits her response to the notice.
