Mumbai Crime Branch Nabs Man Sending Extortion Audio Clips

Mumbai police have successfully tracked down and detained an information technology professional suspected of orchestrating a covert extortion campaign targeting entertainment industry figures. The suspect, Vaibhav Mishra, hails from Bengaluru and is alleged to have used fabricated gang credentials to intimidate victims.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that Mishra was taken into custody following a comprehensive probe initiated by the city’s crime department. The technology employee is facing allegations of dispatching audio recordings meant to instill fear among celebrities and corporate executives. Both Tushar Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana were among those who received the alarming messages.

Initial reports indicate that the caller claiming to be part of the Lawrence Bishnoe faction demanded substantial sums of money. Ayushmann Khurrana’s recorded message contained a vague demand for multiple crores, while Tushar Kapoor’s clip featured a caller going by Harry Boxer requesting five crore rupees. Both actors promptly reported the incidents to local authorities.

The Mumbai Police cyber division deployed digital forensics to trace the transmission routes and identify the hardware used. Voice modulation experts are simultaneously working to match the recorded tones with stored police records. The anti-extortion wing has since been assigned to lead the formal investigation.

Investigators are now conducting a broader review of the case to understand the full extent of the digital harassment. Authorities are actively searching for potential accomplices, evaluating the sender’s end goals, and determining if the threats were a solo operation or part of an organized criminal enterprise.
