Actress Nidhhi Agerwal was seen arriving at the CID office in Hyderabad on Friday, reportedly to address an inquiry related to the promotion of online betting games. The actress had previously received a notice summoning her for questioning.
This development follows similar scrutiny of other personalities in the entertainment industry. Actor Rana Daggubati, who also faced an investigation into illegal betting app promotions, had previously spoken about the importance of responsible communication regarding gaming. He emphasized a commitment to using legitimate channels to convey accurate information about gaming and associated applications, stating his willingness to cooperate with authorities to spread the right message.
Earlier this year, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against numerous celebrities and influencers, including prominent names like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi. The FIR alleges their involvement in promoting illegal betting and gambling applications across their social media channels. The complaint, filed by a businessman, highlighted the detrimental impact these promotions have, particularly on younger individuals and those from lower and middle-class families, who are enticed by the false promise of quick financial gains. The investigation aims to curb the financial ruin caused by these illicit platforms, which often leverage celebrity endorsements to gain trust and lure unsuspecting users into gambling their savings.
