The Poetic Journey of Gulshan Bawra – 240 Songs, Two Filmfare Honors

Over a career that spanned 42 years, Gulshan Bawra penned close to 240 songs, always choosing quality over quantity. His first Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist arrived in 1968 for the Upkar anthem "Mere Desh Ki Dharti". Four years later he repeated the triumph with the song "Yari Hai Imaan Meri" from the 1974 hit Zanjeer.

Chart‑topping numbers such as "Kasme Vaade Nibhayenge Hum", "Pyar Humein Kis Mod Pe" and the reflective "Chandi Ki Deewar Na Todi" cemented his reputation as a versatile wordsmith. In 1975 he began a prolific partnership with music director R.D. Burman, whose experimental soundscapes complemented Gulshan’s lyrical imagination, producing some of the era’s most beloved tracks.
