Rough River Ganga Triggers Erosion; Women Pray with Songs at Narakatiya Dam

The Ganga’s turbulent flow has carved new channels along the banks of the Narakatiya Dam in Raghopur, threatening the stability of nearby settlements. In a striking display of cultural resilience, a group of women settled on the dam’s embankment and sang traditional bhajans to invoke the river’s mercy.

Their chorus, echoing the lines “Hey Mother Ganga, we bow to you,” was meant to calm the raging waters and protect their homes from further loss. The women explained that for them the river embodies motherhood, and their prayers are a direct appeal for her compassion.

Government teams from the Water Resources Department have installed temporary barriers and are monitoring the erosion hotspots. Meanwhile, the village’s children watch the women’s performance, which has become both a spiritual ritual and a visual reminder of the looming danger.
