Sachin Pilgaonkar's Saree Role Left Family Stunned on Set
Sachin Pilgaonkar has opened up about a hilarious incident from the shoot of 'Aashi Hi Banwa Banvi', the Marathi comedy that remains a fan favourite. While performing a female character in a saree, he fooled even his own mother-in-law.
During a visit to the set, Sachin's mother-in-law spotted a woman standing near his wife, Supriya, and asked who she was. Sachin, still in character, went ahead and touched her feet. When he asked if she had failed to recognise him, she was taken aback.
He recounted the story on the popular quiz show 'Kaun Honaar Crorepati', hosted by Madhuri Dixit. The upcoming episode will feature him and actress Madhurani Gokhale in the hot seat, with a lively discussion planned alongside the host.
The film, released in 1988, was directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar and produced by Kiran Shantaram. Its saree-clad look for Sachin has since become one of the defining moments of the movie.
The story follows four friends who are looking for a house on rent. A landlady's condition that she will only rent to married couples creates a problem. Two of the friends decide to dress as women and act as the wives of their companions, setting off a series of misunderstandings and comic situations.
The film starred Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ashok Saraf, Laxmikant Berde, Siddharth Ray, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Ashwini Bhave, Nivedita Joshi-Saraf, Priya Arun Berde, Sudhir Joshi and Viju Khote.
